BLUESFEST NZ WILL NOT PROCEED IN 2009

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – MONDAY 12 JANUARY 2009

In 2007, Bluesfest Byron Bay announced another sister event to join the four Blues Festival’s that would take place across Australia over the Easter weekend in March 2008 – The mother event, Bluesfest Byron Bay, West Coast Blues n Roots Festival in Fremantle (WA), Point Nepean: A Music Experience in Victoria and Southern Roots Festival and Tasmania.

Bluesfest NZ’s inaugural event in 2008 afforded New Zealand the rare opportunity to bring together some of the world’s greatest talent in the blues and roots genres for one event.   The festival featured performances by Buddy Guy, KT Tunstall, Keb Mo, Wilco, Ian Brown, Xavier Rudd, Newton Faulkner, Midge Marsden, Hollie Smith, Herbs (Unplugged), Paul Ubana Jones, Pluto, Little Bushman, Darcy Perry, Kokomo, Twinset and The Checks.

After much deliberation , it is with regret that this great New Zealand event will not go ahead in 2009. Timing, artist availability and tight allocation of resources over these unsettled economic times have also meant the temporary retirement of the Southern Roots Festival in Tasmania and Point Nepean in Victoria.

Bluesfest NZ Ltd acknowledges and extends sincere appreciation for the support and efforts of Manukau City Council, Mangere Community Board and Otara Community Board in preparing for this event.

The Company Directors would like especially to thank Ross Gallagher of MCC Events for the time and energy dedicated to Bluesfest over the last six months.

The energies of the Bluesfest team will now be focused towards the return of the Bluesfest NZ festival in 2010.
